Why Improv?
We live in a world of constant change, and we’re not always prepared for what comes next. Improvisation isn’t about predicting everything or having a ready-made script; it’s about developing the skills to handle new, unpredictable situations with flexibility and confidence.
The kids and teens I work with are living proof that anything can be learned, and most barriers exist only in our minds.
Goals of Improvisation:
-
Showing that you’re capable of more than you think.
-
Trying things that seem out of reach.
-
Discovering the courage to be a beginner and embrace imperfection.
-
Building self-confidence and reduce fears.
-
Highlighting the joy of the process, not just the destination.
-
Developing resilience to change and adaptability.
-
Improving coordination, rhythm, and encourage movement.
-
Gaining experience with performance and being on stage.
What We Work On:
-
Acting without a script and reacting to unexpected situations.
-
Observing and responding to your surroundings and others.
-
Playing various roles.
-
Collaborating on and off the stage.
-
Using your body, rhythm, and music to express yourself.
How It All Began:
2023 brought big changes for me. After leaving school, I didn’t want to lose touch with my students. One day, during a conversation with a parent, I heard a semi-serious suggestion:
"Why not create something like tutoring for life skills?"
The idea clicked. I enthusiastically began working on a project called "Słowotok" ("Wordflow"), focused on discussions, conversations, and interpreting texts. Initially, it was supposed to be a classic extracurricular class with a touch of music.
But things didn’t go as planned. Starting in a tiny community center room, I struggled to find a balance that captivated all participants. Then, in December, during my annual winter binge-watch of improv shows, inspiration struck. I tried a few improv games during my online language lessons, and they worked like magic! 🎉
I tested the format with high schoolers, and it resonated just as strongly. After just three fully improvisational sessions of "Słowotok," I left the room smiling, certain I’d found the right path.
From there, everything snowballed. We moved to a bigger space, and improvisation became the heart of our workshops. I began incorporating elements of rhythm, music, and movement. Improvised scenes reached a new level, and participants flourished at an incredible pace.
By June, we performed for a larger audience, and I realized that what started as a dream – leading an improv, movement, and music group – was evolving into a philosophy and teaching method I wanted to share. 🌟
Who Is It For?
-
Individualists, introverts, and those needing a niche approach.
-
Children and teens – the sooner they learn to navigate unpredictability, the better.
-
Adults – it’s never too late to work on yourself. Improvisation can improve both your professional and personal life.
If kids can do it, so can you! Together, we’ll break down barriers.
